How does Pasta for Pennies work?
• Students collect spare change for a four-week period during October 2009 or February 2010. Funds are collected in honor of a local student survivor and current patients.
• The top classroom in every school wins a Hospitaliano Luncheon courtesy of Olive Garden.
• The Society provides participating schools with all the program materials needed including: posters, collection containers, letters to every child’s parent/guardian,
age-appropriate videos, K-12 lesson plans and additional incentives.
• Activities can be planned to educate and motivate students. You can even request a
kick-off assembly or morning announcement from the Society staff!
• The top fundraising classroom in the # 1 school in Central Florida will also receive a Hospitaliano Luncheon courtesy of Olive Garden with WFTV Channel 9’s News Anchor Bob Opsahl and Barbara West.
• The Orlando Magic will provide every participating student and faculty in every school a certificate to redeem for a free ticket. A representative from the Orlando Magic will also visit the overall #1 school.
• Schools that raise $1,350 or more are eligible for a Staples gift card.
• Top fundraising classroom from the #1 elementary school will get to go to the Fun Spot Jr. in Kissimmee.
• Top fundraising classroom from the #1 middle school will get to go to Fun Spot Attractions in Orlando.
• Top fundraising classroom from the #1 high school will get to go to Fun Spot USA in Kissimmee.
• Top fundraising classroom from the top growth school will get to Aloma Bowling Centers for a bowling party.
• Top fundraising classroom from the #1 rookie school will get to go to Wonder Works in Orlando.
Why should my school participate?
• Leukemia causes more deaths than any other cancer among children and young adults under the age of 20.
• Approximately every five minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer.
• Every ten minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer.
• Students of all ages can participate and make a difference in the lives of others.
• All monies raised will benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society by supporting life-saving research and patient aid. The Society is the world’s largest voluntary health organization dedicated solely to finding a cure for blood cancers while improving the lives of patients and their families.
